As a social venture and a One Health company, Galaxy Diagnostics is passionate about protecting the animal-human bond through the surveillance, prevention and clinical management of diseases shared by humans and animals. Not only do we offer the best molecular and serology test options available, but we work with researchers and clinicians to generate new knowledge about emerging infectious diseases such as bartonellosis, borreliosis and other vector-borne diseases. Based on our scientific expertise, we are able to provide counsel to clinicians and researchers dedicated to achieving the most accurate diagnosis possible for their patients. This central goal is reflected in our corporate values and everyday interaction with patients, clinicians and researchers.
Galaxy Diagnostics was launched in 2009 to commercialize a more sensitive test for Bartonella spp. infection (e.g., bartonellosis, cat scratch disease, trench fever, etc.), based on a proprietary technology called Bartonella Alpha Proteobacteria Growth Medium (BAPGM), developed by scientists at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. The company was founded by Dr. Edward Breitschwerdt and Dr. Ricardo Maggi and led by Dr. Amanda Elam from launch of testing services through early market development. We continue to utilize this research in our Bartonella testing today.
The One Health approach recognizes that the health of people is connected to the health of animals and the environment. It is important because six of every 10 infectious diseases in humans are spread from animals. We have a proud commitment among our employees at Galaxy Diagnostics of offering the best possible resources to the community. The goal of One Health is to encourage the collaborative efforts of multiple disciplines working locally, nationally and globally to achieve the best health for people, animals and our environment.
Galaxy Diagnostics’ mission is to build awareness about the emerging research of bartonellosis among key stakeholders in medicine, public health and the veterinary community and to offer the best possible clinical testing for confirmation of Bartonellaspp. bacteremia. Today we continue this mission for Bartonella testing, but with a broader menu of accurate and reliable tests based on the best possible scientific and clinical practices.
Accuracy + Integrity + Science
We are committed to providing the highest quality testing possible, to providing our services in the most honest and transparent way possible, and to center our testing services on a solid foundation of scientific excellence.
FIND IT. TREAT IT. PREVENT IT.
We offer a growing menu of molecular and serology test options for a range of zoonotic, vector-borne diseases, including Bartonella spp., Borrelia spp., Anaplasma spp., Ehrlichia spp., Babesia spp. and Rickettsia spp. We file insurance claims for Medicare and private insurance providers on an out-of-network basis. We also provide Clinicians Consults to support pathogen testing interpretation.
FIND IT. TREAT IT. PREVENT IT.
Both animals and the people who care for them are at high risk for Bartonella spp. infection (aka bartonellosis, cat scratch disease, trench fever, etc.). Based on the emerging research, we suspect that many more animals, veterinary workers and pet owners are affected by bartonellosis infection than is currently appreciated.
We provide pathogen testing and other diagnostic testing services for clinical trials, epidemiological studies, basic research initiatives and new diagnostic test development, as requested by a variety of stakeholders including industry, civilian or military governmental agencies, academic and non-profit organizations. We offer both CLIA-validated molecular and serological assays and Research Use Only (RUO) pathogen testing for a growing range of zoonotic, vector-borne infectious agents, including Bartonella spp, Borrelia spp., Anaplasma spp., Ehrlichia spp., Babesia spp., and Rickettsia spp.
